Poverty, unemployment, diminished fishing catches and the destruction wrought by the 2004 tsunami have all played their part in forcing many families to live in makeshift homes without even basic amenities.

A NEW HOME

Many families are in need of a solid house that helps to make life so much more bearable. Ex-Treasurer, Charlie Smiles, was delighted to help this brother and sister who had lost both of their parents and were living in very poor accommodation.

The new house has 3 simple rooms and an inside toilet.

I met these 2 youngsters on a previous visit to the project and was very moved by their plight. I set about raising the money to build them a new home, by offering visitors a ride in my tuk tuk at the Arundel Festival.

It was wonderful to finally see the house and to see what a difference it has made to their lives.
