FEAST has helped to fund more than 1000 houses, changing the lives of some of the neediest families in Tamil Nadu. There is less demand, and indeed less support, for new houses, but this poor family were lucky.

The sickly father, mentally handicapped son, mother, aunty and grandma had been living on the site in a banana-leaf hut. The new simple brick house, comprising a toilet, kitchen and 2 small rooms, will transform their lives. When I asked if there was any income coming into the house, I was told that they relied on charity from neighbours and grandma – the only bread winner – who makes snacks to sell by the roadside.
